Sip Trunk Pricing: Understanding Cost and How to Get the Most Value

November 11, 2019 By Jacques Leave a Comment

Sip Trunking enables businesses to use end point’s PBX to send and receive calls via the Internet. From the customer perspective, SIP Trunking provides more flexibility, and it can be implemented over existing WAN services and the public Internet as well. SIP Trunking costs vary and depend on various factors.

Here we have simplified SIP Trunk Pricing for you and provided you tips to get the most out of it.

What Are the Different Costs Related to SIP Trunking?

Setup Fees

Many SIP vendors charge a one-time setup fee to their customers. Some SIP vendors may not charge a setup fee, but they have a higher monthly rate. The setup fee covers consultation costs, implementation, and quality testing. The setup fees are generally in the range of $50 to $250. However, some enterprises have complex needs, and they might have higher setup fees.

Number of Phone lines

If you want to migrate to SIP Trunking for expansion and want to have more phone lines, there are separate costs associated with it. In that case, you need more DIDs (direct-inward-dial) for additional users. The one-time setup fee for a new DID is approximately $20 to $25 per line.

Porting Fees

The Federal Communication Commission allows you to retain your existing number even if you are porting to SIP Trunking. Porting of telephone numbers is one of the time-consuming parts of migrating your communication system to SIP Trunk. The pricing structure for porting varies with SIP vendors, but you can expect a fee of $15 to $30 for each number ported.

Handsets

You need IP-based telephones for SIP Trunking. There are wide ranges of IP-based phones available in the market.  You can choose a generic IP phone with basic features, or you can go for a top-end IP phone with conferencing features or other advanced features. Depending on the choice of handsets, you might be required to pay approximately $200 to $1000 per handset.

PBX Configuration

If your organization is using a SIP trunk for the first time, you will need a VoIP gateway to take advantage of SIP Trunking. The price of VoIP gateway varies with each SIP vendor, but you can expect costs of $500-$2000 for equipment investment.

Monthly Service Fees

You need to pay a specific monthly service fee to the SIP vendor as per the plan.  The monthly SIP Trunk pricing isbetween $20 to $50 which includes basic features like E911 and internal call transferring

The SIP vendors offer separate SIP Trunking for enterprises, which includes advanced features like 3-way calling, automatic callback, and many more features.  You need to select the right SIP trunk plan that meets your needs and avoid unnecessary fancy features that might be of no use to your organization.

How to Get the Most Value from SIP Trunking?

Price Structure

A lot depends on the SIP Vendor, and you need to select the SIP Vendor offering the highest value for SIP services. There is no hard and fast rule for initial SIP set up costs. IP-based telephony for five users can cost around $2000 to $5000 for the first time. The monthly fees are in the range of $150 to $400. As mentioned earlier, the pricing of SIP vendors is different, and SIP vendors are offering lower prices than discussed above.

Type of Setup

The costs of SIP Trunking also depend on the kind of equipment you will need to switch to SIP, the type of phones, and the add-on features required.

These two factors play an important role in finding the best SIP vendor who will provide maximum value. The price should not be the main factor while choosing a SIP vendor, and there are other important factors too.

Service-Level Guarantees

Many SIP vendors offer lower prices to win customers but do not provide service-level guarantees. This is a red flag, and you should stay away from SIP vendors who want to cut corners by offering you low prices.

The right SIP vendor for your organization is the one who offers the best SIP trunk pricing and also provides quality and redundancy guarantees that are important when communicating with your customers. Do you’ve any questions? Please feel free to leave your comments below.
